About

We (my brother and I) have been planning to put up our father’s – (Tarun Bose)-- website for quite some time. We kept planning but nothing materialized because we were both busy with our respective careers and personally I had this niggling doubt – Would anybody be interested? After all my father was an actor of the sixties, besides that, he had a brief career so the obvious question that crossed my mind was -- Do people remember him? Or even know him? We therefore got on with our lives and the plan remained just that ‘A Plan’.
Then one fine day my brother decided to do a Google search on dad; he wanted to see what was available on the internet and he stumbled upon a review of ‘Oonche Log’ in a film blog – Memsaabstory
Memsaabstory sort of shook me up, here was an American lady who appeared to be well-versed in Hindi films and what is more she knew all there was to know about old Hindi films. I could not resist posting a comment on her blog, introducing myself as Tarun Bose’s daughter. Memsaab soon invited me to do a post on my father. Initially I thought of writing just one post but soon realized that a single post would not be enough, but plagued as I was with doubts, I wanted to first see how her readers responded to my first post. I was bowled over by the response and I soon found myself doing six posts.
Having seen the response, we decided to launch this blog. We unfortunately suffered a setback; the sudden demise of our beloved mother on July 25, 2011 prevented us from putting our plans into action. Taking a hold of ourselves we have finally launched the blog. As you follow this blog you will find it is different from the usual websites of the film stars. It will not be just about dad but also about the people who touched his life and as I go along I will also discuss films, not just Hindi films, any film that has at some time attracted my attention. Actually I would like to discuss cinema in general.
Do I have to mention that I look forward to your comments?
 P.S.
The blog has been designed by my brother Aroop Bose, he will also be sharing with me his memories about dad..
 Shilpi Bose.
Please do not use any material from this site without my permission and without giving a link back to this site.

Dada had a 'brief' carrier yah, but the impression he has left with the variety of roles is def huge, we grew up with him, and proud to say what ever was/is available where Dada had performed, me and ma buddies grabbed it.So we look fwd to hearing more from you and bro, and our condolences for passing of Mom. 15. Hello di.... I am a big fan of Tarunda as you might know from Madhudi's blog. I especially love your Dad's performance in Satyakam. Not a lengthy role but a mighty impressive performance for sure.

  16. Yup me Raunak. I actually wanted to comment from my wordpress account but somehow it was not working. so i used my now defunct google blog account to comment!! By the way didn't Tarunda act in Anokha Daan too? I remember the film as it has one of my fav Lata numbers ever-Madbhari Yeh Hawayein Paas Aye.

    1. First of all sorry of the delayed response Raunak. I am sorry you have to go through this moderation nonsense, I had to enable it for my older posts because some jerks were filling up the comments space with spam. Thankfully after I enabled the spam option that has stopped. But I am still rather hesitant to disable the moderation process.
Yes he was there in Anokha Daan but unfortunately that film bombed at the box-office, not surprising considering it was so badly made.

    2. No problems. And plz dont disable the moderation process as the online world is full of velas & jerks.
So i was right about Anokha Daan. Anyways it may be badly made & a box-office disaster but i think i will watch it just for Tarun Bose, Salil Chowdhury & Asit Sen.

    3. Actually I, too, would love to watch it again but I just couldn't lay my hands on a DVD, just not available, maybe it is available online, I have to check. He really worked hard on that role I saw him rehearsing at home.

    Shilpi,

I agree with Raunak... that Madhbhari song from Anokha Dan is my favorite too. I also loved your dad's expressions in the song Dheere Dheere Machal.

Great tribute to your dad from you and your brother.

  20. In those days characters played by the likes of Tarun Bose, Rehman, Abhi Bhattacharya, Iftikhar are memorable ones. They all had such an amazing personality that they fit in all types of roles. They looked so handsome in playing characters of rich and wealthy. Unfortunately, most of them had a shorter life span. In black and white era they did magic on screen. Would like to have many more write-ups like this. Just like Shilpi Bose, write-ups from the children of those yesteryear artists will go a long way in knowing them more closely. Overall a great effort by Shilpi Bose. She may like to post family photos which will create a great nostalgia for their admirers.

    2. Thanks Madam. Please keep posting to quench the thirst of innumerable diehard admirers of golden era of hindi films. Did your father use to go for foreign shoots. If yes, give some input.

    3. My father unfortunately had a very short life besides that films were seldom shot on locations abroad as they are done now, therefore, no, he did not go on any foreign shoot. However he did work in an American TV serial 'Maya', produced by MGM that was shot in Kashmir. I have written about it here in this blog.
